As I sit for guidance to write about the great change that is about to happen on the Winter Solstice, I feel a wink from the Universe and am called to look up into the clouds. I become fixated on something large and red flying high above the third floor of my house. “Am I imagining this?” It is a dragonfly kite floating in and out of the dark rain clouds. I become mesmerized as the Sun bursts through the clouds and shines golden rays of light on this potent talisman of communication. This is a powerful symbol of change and adaptability just like the new Era we are transitioning into on the Winter Solstice.
In almost every part of the world, the dragonfly signifies that change is about to happen within the mental and emotional maturity of one’s life. This conveys precisely what is happening on the Solstice day as the Sun moves into the territory of Capricorn and signals a new beginning. BUT--not just any beginning. We are starting a very important new cycle. For the past 200 years, the Jupiter-Saturn cycles, who are the architects of our solar system have basically been seeded in Earth signs, which impacts our institutions, treaties, social norms and all the many ways we govern societies. This began roughly when the Industrial Revolution started influencing the United States. Important inventions were created. It was a time of political, technological, sociological and cultural change. We started extracting materials from the Earth; iron, steel, coal and petroleum.
Transportation and communications developed, like steamships, automobiles, airplanes as well as the telegraph and radio. This created tremendous change in the use of natural resources as we produced and amassed manufactured goods.
All of this evolution was exciting and brought about great change. However, too much of a good thing caused greed and destruction of our Sacred Earth and the human mind. Over these past 200 years, we lost our relationship with the soul of our planet. We forgot humans are a Part Of - not Master Of - the Earth. The easier and faster we could acquire material possessions, the more we lost guidance from the cycles and rhythms of nature. But on the day of Winter Solstice 2020 the Sun moves into the cardinal sign of Capricorn @ 2:05 AM PT and heralds a new beginning. On this first day of Winter our two “social planets” Jupiter and Saturn will come together and usher in a NEW 200-YEAR CYCLE starting in a revolutionary air sign... “This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius”.
Aquarius is the most global sign of the zodiac. During this Air sign age our intuition will be heightened. New forms of transportation and communications will be discovered from space travel to connecting with other life forms. There will be new developments of artificial intelligences. Aquarius energy influences humanitarianism, innovation and thinking outside the box. It rules networks and we will see communities with a mutual vision working towards the greater good for all.
We have a big mess to clean up but systemic change is happening and we are called to let go of attachments to yesterday’s way of life. To say it has been a challenging time in this year of 2020 is putting it lightly. But the rug has been pulled out from under the feet of the kings and queens. Hierarchical top-down ways will not have ground to stand on in this new era. We will see more clearly how important every single life is and how the medicine each one of us carries matters to develop a better way for all life forms. This is an opportunity to get involved and create a better world now and for our future generations. This era will come with a new operating system unlike any we have seen as we move toward a more democratic way of life. May the web of life be woven whole again.
As Astro Butterfly said, “What are the chances to have the two slowest moving visible planets of our solar system meeting exactly in the 1st degree of Aquarius on the same day? The last time they aligned in Aquarius was 1405. Change is around the corner and will come sooner than we expect. Humanity's next chapter is currently being written, right in front of our eyes.”
This New Moon in Taurus is different than the one we usually look forward to. Taurus influences us to let our self-indulge in pleasures be it getting a yummy massage or traveling to a beautiful landscape with friends, or going to our favorite restaurant. However, that is not available to do right now. The astrology of this time has been letting us know in its metaphorical kind of ways that life as we have known it would change and not go back. What we are being shown is it will take some radical thinking as we cultivate new thoughts and actions for our self, the Planet and all the children that come after us. We must find a way forward that acknowledges what is at hand. Not just take desperate measures to save our old pleasurable ways of life.
The zodiac sign Taurus usually brings us to a sensual time of calm grounded peace. It calls us to dig our feet deeply in and feel the pleasure of seeds sprouting up towards the sunshine of Spring. New life is beginning everywhere. But this year we are in a new land and we do not know what is sprouting. As modern people we have never experienced a pandemic before. And during this global pandemic we are all being asked to STOP, JUST STOP and prepare for a new life. We are all in this world together and we do not know where we are going. Nobody knows!
This New Moon in Taurus is conjunct Uranus. It is the planet of revolution and radical eruptions that explode. It is Not about deep seeding and pleasure. It just does not seem like a good fit with (Taurus) which is a fixed earth sign. Uranus just feels unwelcome during a seeding time. Yet it is mysteriously here. And as It is naked to the human eye, we feel the energy of the wild maverick that has broken lose. We also have Venus and Mars doing a dance in the sky right. Venus being the faster moving planet of the two is starting to go retrograde. It is slowing down, and preparing to STOP. Perhaps asking you to look back, now look again. See what is truly of value to you at this strangely radical time? What is honestly fertile in you? What right action that is simple yet powerful (mars) is being called up from your deeper self as you navigate through all these eruptions?
We know there is a new world emerging. We can feel it, but we cannot see it or touch it or even understand the full mystery and sacredness of it.
So what are we being called to do at this New Moon? This time of the month is about beginnings. It is the time of month to dream of all possibilities. What is possible from you that will trickle out into the World?
I am assuming that Most of us who are here tonight can agree that Mother Earth, Gia is a live Breathing being. It is a radical idea to the status quo of our culture, but what if disrupting Uranus is helping the middle world reality wake up to the truth that the Earth is a living breathing being in her on right and has a soul. We all feel the effects of the Earth self-regulating with all the earthquakes, wildfires volcanoes etc. working to come back into a balance. Uranus in Taurus may be reminding us that the earth is a live entity and may not be focused only on the wellbeing and happiness of HUMANS! We may not be the central concern of our Great Mother right now, we actually could even be the problem.
I am inviting us all to STOP JUST STOP and feel into the possibilities of our participation to help the globe flow in a balance healthy way. We have the opportunity as a collective to breath together and FOR each other and perhaps become humble again in respect to our great planet. Let’s see if the Moon will help us out as we plant our dream seeds and then rest our bodies as MJ helps carry our dreams out into the world through vibration of sound and love. It is time to trust something greater than our self to help us create our new world.
It is a time to open to all possibilities. To the magic of the ancient Earth, TO water, TO molten fire and TO the clean air that we all can breathe.
My New Moon wish is for the ability to let go of my old thinking, and of unnecessary ways that keep me stuck in an old world that is actually no longer here. May we all Release the patterns, models and theory’s that no longer work. And hope for a new way.
The Winter begins with the final signs of the zodiac: Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. These signs work to organize society into a unified whole to ensure stability as we enter into a New Way of life in 2020.
The Sun entered the land of Capricorn at 8:19 pm on the evening of the Winter Solstice 12/22/2019 and is there until 1/20/2020. Capricorn is an ambitious energy that invites the Sun back towards the Spring as the days begin to get longer. This sign is full of rich potential as we dream of what is most important to us. Being the last earth influence of the year Capricorn helps us be realistic. It influences us to get the job done and bring closure to our year in the most practical way as we surrender to our deep foundations and pause in the darkness of winter. This is the most potent time of year to replenish our bodies with the nutrients of the Earth and conserve for the planning for the coming Spring. Capricorn energy helps us trust that we will find our rightful placement one step at a time as we enter into a new decade that is ushering us into a new world!
Capricorn rules our bones, skin and knees.
When we awaken from our surrender to the Earth on January 20,2020 @ 9:55 AM, the sun moves into the land of Aquarius and we may start to stray a bit from our safe hibernating cave. It is Martin Luther King Day and he being a reformer was a great example of living a soul centered life. Now we are in the New Year of the WORRIOR- 2020 it is calling us to Listen, observe and live our soul truth. Aquarian energy Wants to be authentic to its soul calling. It being the last Air sign of the zodiac knows how to spread its wings and fly unlike any other. Aquarian energy helps us understand we all have unique medicine and when shared influences the soul of the collective. When each individual expresses its personal soul it helps create the whole of humanity. It is the mid part of the winter season and we feel the light beginning to grow, however don’t get caught up in doing too much, Winter is for “time out”. Even though we are seeing signs of the first buds waking up it is still cold outside and a time for dreaming into the coming Spring schedules.
Aquarius rules our calves and ankles.
On February 19, 2020 @12:00 AM, we move into the last part of winter and splash into Piscean energy. As we are feeling renewed you start to awaken to your intuition more keenly. You are coming out of the abyss of slumber and a stirring in your pelvic bowl is ready to swim out into the world with healthy new healing energy. This is the last water sign of the zodiac and connects us strongly with our spiritual life and altered states of reality. Rather we hold a Christian, Buddhist, Hindu or earth based spiritual practice, the dark is starting to merge with the light and fill us with a hope for a new beginning. As we shine our light from the spirit that lives within us, we may feel a fierce willingness to open more fully and be present equally with the invisible and visible world. If we have allowed ourselves to surrender, rest and renew, we will be ready to plant new ways of life as we open to the beauty of Spring.

“One does not become enlightened
How do you see the light forming in the dark? On this planet earth we are born, we live and then we die. From the beginning of time indigenous people recognized they came from Mother Earth and honored her. The natural cycles of the earth have a lot to offer us and can make life easier if we release the idea that our intellectual form of living is safe and always has the best light to lead us. The safest and most stable way to live on Earth is to be in relationship with the earth of ourselves.
How do we clean the residue of experience we have acquired on our life’s journey and surrender to the principals of our true nature? perhaps one way is to let go of doing so much and relax into the natural cycles of our environment. Maybe we don’t have to work so hard to live fully. Maybe we can allow our inner light to guide our way during dark times. Perhaps by attuning to the principals of nature we can gain strength, insight and a long enjoyable life.
I would like to share a story of making the darkness conscious…. One spring evening I was out walking into a deep canyon with some friend. We were looking for some companions who were already set up at a camp and waiting for us to arrive. When we had left our car, it was sunny out and we forgot to bring our flashlights. But as we walked along chatting, we got lost and it became dark and dangerous. We had crossed over a stream and that is when I knew we were off track. One woman became scared and started to cry so loud I could not here the signs of nature to help us know where we were. I asked her if I could hold her and all of us get very quiet. We played a game of closing our eyes and asking our inner light to tell us the next step to take. Soon we acclimated to the dark sky and were able to trace back to the correct trail.
"To go into the dark with a light is to know the light, to know the dark, go dark.”
This is a true way to find the many treasures of being in the dark. We need to allow ourselves to be in silence and feel what is around us waiting to be a guide in our life. As we connect to the solitude and darkness of winter is when we find our true source of light. This is making the darkness conscious and we learn to trust our quiet inner self.
The Season of Winter is a “time out”. It is when we naturally rest, sleep, eat and rejuvenate the inner nature of ourselves. Don’t let the outer appearance of the gray dark clouds or the dormant trees fool you into thinking they are dead. They aren’t, they are replenishing and dreaming into the next season.
The Winter Solstice marks the longest night and shortest day of the year and invites us to recognize the presence of the light of our soul. It reminds us that we are never alone and have many allies in the silence of the dark. Imbolc marks the mid-season of winter at the beginning of February and starts nudging us to awake from the delightful slumber of rest. May you carry the silence like a mother carries her child to its full stature into the Spring Equinox and prepare the soil to plant your dreams.
Here is to a happy slumber as you surrender to the deep mystery of winter life!

“It is not in the stars to hold our destiny, but in ourselves.”
We all have to be advocates for ourselves in this world and the more we are in relationship with wholeness and attuned to all that the galaxies have to offer the more fully we will live our lives. This New Moon brings a feeling of a fresh start, do you feel it?
New Moons help us be at the edge and jump. They are where our old life and the new life MOVE FROM ONE to the OTHER and have a blending together. What is calling you at the threshold of a new decade, first New Moon at the lunar New Year? This marks a significant shift moving into a new decade. One of my astrology teachers, Sheila Belanger, gave a webinar recently and this is a quote she read:
“It may be that we live in a time of collective heartbreak, where for the first time in history we are being asked to witness the disappearance and reappearance on a global scale of what it means to be fully human…the old humanistic story around ourselves as a successful species, always on the up and up and appointed to some special destiny, is fading and silvering into the night air, and we are left at this point in history, contemplating the unknown immensity of the night behind it.”
I believe we do not have to die to reincarnate anymore, we stay alive to evolve into our next soul initiation of life. It is not easy but the world you were born into and the patterns you may have thought would work forever are changing. These are profound times of change. What needs a reboot or is still living in the shadow of you that is asking to be discovered or reborn?
As the Sun and Moon come together, they attune us to our feelings and instinct. The sky and us are interconnected and this New Moon in Aquarius open us up to the revolutionist who wants freedom from the status quo. One Aquarian strength is divination. It is a fixed air sign and deals with ideas, images, and language yet loves structure. It influences us to build theories and grand visions that inspire the world. At this Lunar new year, it is a wonderful time to look in “out of the box” ways as we open to all possibilities. Tune into the revolutionist of you. We know that our world is UNPREDICTABLE yet we love to have a safe plan. Allow the Wholeness of the Universe to influence your plan. What is the deep underbelly of you wanting to seed? What “dream Seeds” are calling from your instinct that want new directions? Do you want to be something different as you belong to the larger community of this world? Divine it by believing in yourself and asking The Invisible World for help.
I will finish with a quote from Dare to Lead by Brene Brown:
“We are not here to fit in, be well balanced or provide example for others. We are here to be eccentric, different perhaps, strange perhaps, but merely to add our small piece, our little clunky chunky selves to the great mosaic of beings. As the gods intended, we are here to become more and more ourselves!”
